The Casting Process
The life casting process is incredibly gentle and, most importantly, completely safe. In fact, some newborn babies may even sleep through their session.
To create the mould, I use alginate, a natural, plant-derived material made from seaweed. Alginate is most commonly used by dentists to take impressions inside the mouth, which means it is very safe and suitable for even the most delicate baby skin.
Everything is completely baby-led , and you'll have plenty of time to feed, cuddle and take breaks whenever you need. I allow plenty of time to go at your baby's pace throughout the whole session.
For hand or foot castings, your baby’s hand or foot is gently placed into a smooth tub of alginate. After around a minute, the alginate sets to a soft, rubbery consistency and the hand or foot can be carefully removed, leaving a detailed mould behind.
Once the mould has been taken, you’re free to head home while I complete the rest of the casting and finishes over the coming weeks.
You’ll be able to choose your preferred finishes and frame colour and any personalised details at your session. I have a full selection of samples with me, so you can see all the frame and mount options in person and decide what feels right for your keepsake.
Your finished, fully displayed casts will be ready for collection within 4-6 weeks.
